Introduction

Interns are placed in one of two programs, the Outpatient Department or CARES.

Interns at the Outpatient Department provide individual, group and family treatment to children and adolescents presenting with a variety of psychiatric, educational and psychosocial difficulties. There are also opportunities to conduct initial evaluations, provide in-services, engage in weekly meetings with staff, present cases for discussion and contribute to the overall inclusion of the creative arts therapies within the clinic.

The Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES) is an alternative school located on hospital grounds for high school students who require treatment for psychiatric difficulties and/or substance abuse. The Department of Education teachers provide a full academic experience in the program.  This milieu treatment setting is united by a Dialectical Behavior Therapy model.  Interns provide regular milieu and group treatment.  Additionally, interns have the opportunity to provide individual creative arts therapy. 

Creative arts therapy interns at both the Outpatient Department and CARES are part of multi-disciplinary treatment settings comprised of clinicians in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, social work, family therapy, creative arts therapies and substance abuse counseling. They attend regular staff meetings and monthly child grand rounds.  Interns also have the option of providing in-services to clinicians and other trainees.   

Supervision

Interns receive 1 hour of individual supervision each week on their treatment cases. Additionally, interns at CARES attend a weekly Dialectical Behavior Therapy consultation group with clinical and education staff as well as other trainees.
