Study of Science-Based Treatments for Opioid-Dependent Teens

This study is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Its goal is to evaluate strategies for optimizing outcomes from combined behavioral and pharmacological (i.e. Buprenorphine) treatments for Opioid (either Heroin, or prescription painkillers)-dependent youth between the ages 13-25.

Randomized Controlled Trial of Osmotic-Release Methylphenidate for ADHD in Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders (Fresh Focus)

This study is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (NIDA). The Child and Family Institute is one of several sites around the country participating in this multi-site clinical trial led by Paula Riggs, M.D. The goal of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of weekly cognitive-behavioral therapy with or without medication(ConcertaTM) for teens with ADHD and substance use.

Adolescent Screening, Assessment, and Treatment (Discovery Center)

This study is funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatmen(CSAT)/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This project will evaluate a standardized substance abuse screening and assessment protocol combined with a brief treatment approach (Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for adolescents with substance use. The project is based in school-based health centers, and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and Adolescent HIV Clinic at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital.

Multimedia Adolescent Substance Use Assessment

The Child and Family Institute is one of several sites around the country participating in this multi-site trial led by Kimberly Trudeau, Ph.D. The goal of the study is to develop and evaluate an interactive, computerized assessment of alcohol and drug use problems in adolescents.

Outcomes of Pediatric Weight Management Program Patients

This internally funded pilot study is a chart review of children and adolescents seeking evaluation at our multi-disciplinary Pediatric Weight Management Clinic. The primary goals for the study are to characterize this sample, including psychiatric and behavioral health functioning, and to explore the relationships between psychiatric functioning and obesity and obesity-related medical problems.
